Inter-American Center for Human Rights Petition Accepted by the Inter-American CommissionPosted on: 03/11/2013
The Inter-American Center for Human Rights (IACHR) at the Law Center filed a petition with the Inter-American Organization of American States (OAS) regarding Jamaica’s sodomy laws. That petition is now in the second step having been forwarded by the Inter-American Commission of the OAS to the Jamaican government. Jamaica will now have to respond to the petition. The IACHR views this work as part of its core mission, which is to involve students in human rights work that has a meaningful impact on the world. The IACHR at the Law Center involves students in human rights work and is one way students can use the law to effect actual change in the world.
