The Foreign Lawyers Association is an organization of diverse law students who studied and/or practiced law outside of the United States before undertaking a J.D. at Shepard Broad Law Center . The unique international backgrounds of our members contributes to opening academic and professional opportunities not usually available to their U.S.-educated colleagues. In turn, our differences in academic, professional and cultural makeup can be a source of distinctive challenges in our pursuit of a legal education and career in South Florida . Our organization seeks to tamper these challenges while maximizing the benefits of having a multinational training in the law.
Our members are:
Graduates of foreign law schools and attorneys who practiced law in their home countries (generally enrolled at the Law Center as “foreign attorneys” with advanced standing credits);
University of Barcelona students currently completing a U.S. law degree at the Law Center and U.S. law students pursuing or contemplating the international programs offered by the Law Center in Barcelona, Prague or the Carribeans;
International students and U.S. law students interested in international law, academic and/or professional opportunities in the U.S. or abroad.
The goals the Foreign Lawyers Association are:
To offer support and guidance to newly admitted foreign attorneys, foreign law graduates and exchange students in their academic choices at the Law Center ;
. To communicate the desire of foreign attorneys to have equivalent career development and academic resources and programs available to regular, three-year J.D. candidates;
To create a bridge between the Law Center's foreign attorneys and the legal practicioners of South Florida through networking events such as luncheons and speaker events;
To offer a friendly atmosphere for any global-minded Nova law student interested in exploring academic and professional opportunities in international law in the U.S. or in foreign countries.
