The purpose of the Environmental Law Society (ELS) is to promote awareness and integrity within the student body about environmental and land-use issues. This purpose will be best served through educational, professional, and hands-on events that involve participation by the members of this organization and the general student body.
Earth Day: ELS will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual Earth Day Celebration. Our celebration will involve presentations by local environmental groups, entertainment, good food and lots of fun.
Career Connections: ELS provides students with opportunities to meet and learn from attorneys who are in the environmental and land use field. ELS also provides students with numerous opportunities to network and socialize with environmental and land use attorneys through our Clinic Alumni Reception, social events and by attending local and national environmental and land use law conferences.
Environmental Awareness: ELS sponsors snorkeling trips in Key Largo’s John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park as well as camping and canoe trips in the Everglades National Park to provide students with hands on experience while enjoying Florida’s natural beauty.
Community Involvement: All money raised by ELS benefits the John U. Lloyd State Park located in Dania Beach. The money is used to purchase native plants that are planted by student members and other community volunteers during our yearly community service planting projects.
Leadership: Becoming involved in the Environmental Law Society allows students to develop their leadership skills and abilities by taking advantage of the numerous executive board and committee chair that are available to all members.
Meetings: Meetings are held monthly on the second Tuesday of each month at noon and 5pm in the Shepard Broad Law Center. Remember, lunch is always provided
Membership: Dues are $15 for one year of membership. T-shirts are $10. If you are interested in joining ELS or have any questions, please contact any Board Member.
