My Cousin Vinny Competition

Why you want to join:
  • All student members (including 1Ls) may participate in any of the 3 in-house competitions: The Negotiations, Client Counseling, and My Cousin Vinny competitions.
  • Also, 1Ls are encouraged to try out for witnesses in the 4 traveling team competitions open to the upper year law students.
  • Members are eligible for scholarships!!!
  • Positions for ATLA board and committee members are available to all students returning for the following semester.
  • Membership dues include a one-year subscription to TRIAL magazine, the Law Reporter, and the Advocate.
  • ATLA online discussion board open to all members and includes an outline bank for almost every class offered (professor specific) and various trial aids (sample openings, closings, directs, crosses, motions, etc)
  • Opportunities for members to attend various CLE (continuing legal education) seminars on various topics for FREE!
  • Shadowing Program – ATLA brings together ATLA members with a practicing attorney in a mentoring program. Law students are able to spend the day with their mentor a few days a year and shadow them for the day. (attend real depos, hearings, and even trials)
  • ATLA is an excellent networking resource to meet attorneys form the Broward, Dade, and West Palm Beach areas, as they volunteer their time to judge all of our competitions.
  • www.atla.org is free to all ATLA members and provides 24-hour access to: online discussion groups; searchable full text of ATLA publications; searchable up-to-date member directory; links to state sites, Internet legal sites; agendas and registration for ATLA's seminars, colleges, and conventions; and ATLA Job Bank, a free job listing service!!!
  • And much much more!!!
What we expect of you:

ATLA obligations include

  • Attending (2) mandatory member meetings a semester
  • Volunteers will be needed at each in house competition and other events.
How to join:

Any student wishing to join ATLA must try out during our annual trial competition. Students must advance a select number of rounds to be considered a member. More details will be emailed to “All Students” closer to the time of the competition.
