Dr Campbell is a health services researcher at the Center of Innovation on Disabilities and Rehabilitation Research and the VISN 8 Patient Safety Center at the James A Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, Florida. His primary research interest is in health care risk management. His research uses large-scale administrative datasets to track veterans injuries and adverse events and to identify policies, programs, and interventions that mitigate these kinds of events. Over the past decade he has developed the VHA Injury and Adverse Event Surveillance System that tracks all patient harms in Veterans enrolled in the Veterans Health Administration. Identifying patient and system-level risk factors associated with fall-related injuries and other types of adverse events that occur along the rehabilitation continuum are emphasized in his research. Cost analyses and business case development for injury and adverse event mitigation programs are also an important part of his research. He is a graduate of Stetson College of Law (1981) and has practiced law in the state of Florida for over thirty years. He received his PhD in health services research from the University of South Florida College of Public Health in 1998.
