Elena Langan is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and an associate professor of law at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center. She practiced law for 25 years, primarily in Miami-Dade County Florida, before joining the law faculty in 2007. At the Law Center she has served as Director of the first-year Lawyering Skills and Values Program. During the 2013-14 academic year, Dean Langan was appointed as the Interim Dean of the Law Center.
Dean Langan received her B.A. in political science from the Johns Hopkins University and her J.D. from the University of Maryland, School of Law. She is an active member of the Florida Bar, and was admitted to practice before the Maryland bar, the United States Supreme Court and the United States District Courts for the District of Maryland and the Southern District of Florida.
In addition, Dean Langan has been Board Certified by The Florida Bar Division of Legal Specialization and Education as an expert in the area of marital and family law since 1994. While practicing law, she lectured frequently in the area of complex family litigation. She is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, is listed in the 91st edition of the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, and was selected for inclusion in the 2007, 2008, and 2009 editions of Florida Super Lawyers in the area of Family Law.
Dean Langan has been actively involved in the American Inns of Court and was a founding member and past president of the First Family Law American Inn of Court in Miami-Dade County. She has served on various Florida Bar committees, including the Bench/Bar and Needs of Children Committees of the Family Law Section. She also was appointed to serve on the Florida Bar’s Standing Committee on Professionalism and was a liaison member of the Florida Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism.
