Distance Learning Resources

February 1998 & Supp. February 2001

Rapid changes in communications technology have revolutionized the educational process and have led to the growth of distance learning programs. Although distance education has traditionally been viewed as having limited application to the law school experience, the Accreditation Committee of the American Bar Association is evaluating the appropriate use of the new teaching methodologies in legal education, and has established temporary guidelines which allow accredited schools to conduct distance learning experiments.

Nova Southeastern University Law School has been a pioneer in the area of distance education in the legal instructional process. Students working at off-site internships in various locations throughout the country are connected to a classroom through video conferencing, and can share information and experiences with each other, guest speakers, and professors. In the following distance learning bibliography, the materials owned by the Sherman Library on campus are noted with the designation, "Main." Selected web sites are also included.
