How do I check out library materials?

You can check out materials from the law library if you are an NSU student, faculty or staff member, or a NSU law Alumni with an Alumni borrowing card.  You will need your NSU Shark Card I.D. to check out materials.   Please note that many items in the collection do not circulate.  Items that do not circulate include codes, reporters, loose leafs, periodicals, multi volume series, and books with pocket parts.

What is the book check out period?

Books in the general collection check out for two weeks.  Study Skills materials check out for three days while Reserve items check out for 3 hours.  Materials can also be renewed online via Novacat at https://novacat.nova.edu/patroninfo.   Please remember that fines are 50 cents per day for overdue materials in the general collection and $5.00 per hour for materials in the Reserve collection.

Where are the copiers?

There is a copy room on each floor next to the elevators.  Each room has several copy machines. Copies are 10 cents a page.  You can use your NSU Shark Student  Card to make copies after adding value to your card.  Non NSU patrons can purchase a copy card in the Copy Room on the 2nd floor.

These rooms also function as the Cell Phone Zone.  Please limit your cell phone usage to the copier rooms.

Who can assist with reference questions?

The library has 9 qualified librarians.  Some are dual degreed with a M.L.S./J.D. while others have either an M.L.S. or a J.D.  Usually a librarian is at the reference desk; if not, the Circulation staff can call one for you.

Can I eat and/or drink in the library?

Food is not allowed in the library at any time.  Drinks are allowed .  Please be careful and avoid spills.

Does the library staff re-shelve the books I use in the library?

Since the Law Library & Technology Center is primarily a research library, we ask that all patrons, including NSU Law students, promptly re-shelve any materials used.

Where are the printers?

Printers are located in the copy rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Law Library & Technology Center.  Printing is available only for NSU Law Center students.

Westlaw and Lexis printers are available in the printer/copier room on the 3rd floor of the Law Library & Technology Center.

What are the computer terminals on each floor and at the reference desk?

These are web based catalogs.  They allow for searching of the Law Library’s online catalog, known as Novacat.    Novacat can be searched by author, title, or keyword.

Where are the restrooms?

Restrooms are located on the east side of each floor, past the elevator.  Once past the elevator, turn right.

Where are the water fountains?

The water fountains are also located on the east side of each floor, past the elevator.  As you pass the elevator, turn right.

What about study rooms?

Study rooms are available for NSU law students only.  There are 11 permanent study rooms.  Study room policies are strictly enforced.
