David Cleveland is an Associate Professor of Law at Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center. He teaches Professional Responsibility and Lawyering Skills and Values I and II in the Juris Doctor Program. He has previously designed and taught Administrative Law Research Skills. He also teaches in the Masters of Health Law Program. Prior to joining the Nova faculty, Professor Cleveland practiced law with a large firm in West Michigan, where he practiced general civil litigation in cases ranging from complex commercial actions to personal injury suits to bankruptcy litigation. He is a member of the Michigan, Western District of Michigan, and Sixth Circuit Bars.
At Nova, Professor Cleveland serves as faculty advisor to the the Jessup International Moot Court Team and as Nova's representative to the Florida Bar Committee on Student Education and Bar Admissions. Professor Cleveland has recently written two articles on the history, value, and future of unpublished opinions in the federal courts: Overturning the Last Stone: The Final Step in Returning Precedential Status to All Opinions, 10 J.App.Prac. & Process 61 (2009) and Draining the Morass: Ending the Jurisprudentially Unsound Unpublication System, 92 Marq. L. Rev. 685 (2009).
