Professor Adams has taught at the Law Center since 1990. He presently serves as the Associate Dean for International, Online and Graduate programs. From January to July, 2007, he served as Acting Dean of the Law Center while Dean Harbaugh was on sabbatical. From 1990-96, he served as Director of the Civil Clinic and from 1996-98, he was the Director of Clinical Programs. Professor Adams has taught more than a dozen courses at the Law Center with his most frequently-taught courses being Criminal Law, Torts and Constitutional Law. He serves as faculty advisor to the Lambda Law Society, APALSA, and the National Security Law Society.
Professor Adams is editor and co-author of AIDS: Cases and Materials (Carolina Academic Press, 3rd ed., 2002). He has published other articles and book chapters and made frequent presentations on legal issues in the areas of HIV, sexual orientation and elder law.
Professor Adams has Chaired the Association of American Law Schools’ Section on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issus as well as its Section on Aging and the Law. He is also a prior Chair of the Florida Bar’s Public Interest Law Section. The National Lesbian and Gay Law Association presented its Dan Bradley Award for significant contributions made to lesbian and gay rights to Professor Adams in 1994.
Prior to coming to NSU, Professor Adams held the position of Elderly Projects Director at the Center for Governmental Responsibility at the Holland Law Center at the University of Florida. Professor Adams was also a legal services corporation attorney representing indigent persons for approximately nine years in Indiana and Florida.
Professor Adams received his J.D., cum laude, and his A.B. degrees from Indiana University.
