RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the Law School with responsibility to provide innovative vision and leadership in order to maintain and advance the stature of the Law Center. The Dean is responsible for working effectively with a variety of constituencies within the Law Center and externally including alumni, the practicing Bar, the judiciary, university organizations and committees, and other legal organizations and academic associations. Within the Law Center, the Dean is responsible for sustaining and building an academic environment that supports educational excellence, practical skills and scholarly efforts. The Dean is responsible for financial and personnel management as well as Law Center fundraising and development efforts. Together with the faculty, the Dean is responsible for faculty appointments, educational programs and curriculum, and development of a diverse faculty and student body. Similarly, the Dean is responsible for staff appointments and the development of a diverse staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: Essential qualifications are a Juris Doctorate and a distinguished record of professional and intellectual leadership.
APPOINTMENT: The position of Dean of the Law Center is a senior administrative appointment at the University. The Dean will meet the Law Center criteria for tenured full professorship. Anticipated starting date for the position is Summer 2008.
